Five Reasons Why Coffee Is Good For The Economy

The results are in: America loves coffee. According to 2017 Gallup polls, there are about 64% of us who consume the magical bean to get us through the day. This tallies out to 157 million people. And the U.S. doesn’t even make the top 15 coffee drinking countries. According to The Atlantic, this prestige goes to the Netherlands as the leading world coffee consumer, drinking an average of about 2.5 cups per day.

“Coffee has become important to us on so many levels and there [are] no signs it’s cachet is going away any time soon,” claims Joe DeRupo, president of the National Coffee Association. “It’s part beverage, another part pop culture.”

Society has taken notice of this phenomenon and realizes how coffee can have a positive impact on business as well. Rather than having an office coffee maker that needs maintained and constantly restocking office coffee supplies, many companies are now utilizing the convenience of a coffee delivery service to keep their staff fueled throughout the day, which makes for happier, more productive employees. Having that office coffee delivery means no more breaks by the coffee machine.

Companies (and coffee delivery services) not only understand the business benefits of coffee, but also know that coffee contributes to higher production with increased energy levels, better concentration, and improved cognitive ability. How does coffee do this?

Coffee contains caffeine. Caffeine binds to neurotransmitter receptors that encourage sleep, and works by blocking those receptors.

Recent studies have shown there are other health benefits to coffee as well, including:

1. Lots of Nutrients – Coffee contains essential vitamins, including Vitamin B5, necessary for metabolizing fats, carbs, and proteins; Riboflavin for producing red blood cells; Niacin, for reducing the risk of a heart attack and preventing the build up of plaque; and Potassium, which controls sodium balance and helps flush out toxins.

2. Higher Metabolism – Your metabolic rate is the speed your body burns calories. Studies have shown that the caffeine in coffee can boost your metabolism by 3-11%.

3. Protects from Dementia – Dementia is an increasing concern, with no cure. However, there is evidence that supports certain compounds that may reduce the effects of dementia, called Xanthines. Caffeine is one of those xanthines. Research suggests that coffee drinkers may reduce the chance of developing Alzheimer’s by as much as 60%.

4. Liver Health – The liver, responsible for digestion and carrying out toxins, is crucial to proper body function. Research has found that drinking coffee can help reduce the risk of cirrhosis, when healthy material in the liver dies, thereby lowering the risk of liver cancer.

5. Reduce Depression – According to researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, women who consumed at least four cups of coffee a day lowered their risk of depression 20% more from those who drank less or no caffeine. Caffeine increases BDNF levels. Having lower levels are connected to depression.

All health benefits aside, we’re still creatures of habit — and convenience. Wouldn’t having a coffee delivery service come right to your door or cubical be a dream come true? As coffee research continues to prove the advantages of this magical bean, so will it continue to increase in popularity. Having your fresh brew brought to you by a coffee delivery service is the ultimate luxury, with health benefits an added bonus.

Coffee is good for individuals and for the economy as a whole. So drink coffee, be happy and productive!
